Description
Bodegas Naia has designed a special 'limited edition' bottle of the Naia Naia Verdejo. Very limited production in a beautiful 6 liter version (methusalem). Bodega Naia is located in La Seca, in the heart of the historic wine region Rueda. Also known as the Grand Cru of the Rueda area. The vineyard is owned by Bodegas Naia and 23.5 hectares in size. The winery has vines of no less than 80 to 130 years old. Due to the location of the vineyards, the rich soil, an exceptionally good climate and old vines, winemaker Laura Sanz is in perfect condition to make the best wines of the region. The wines have a complex, terroir-driven character with refreshing aromas. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks (85%) and French oak (15%). The wine then matures for another four months "sur lie", which provides extra depth and complexity.
Absolute Value for Money wine. Naia comes from the village of La Seca which is considered the Grand Cru of this region. The grapes come from over 90 years old pre-phylloxera vines. Fresh, fruity, characterful wine. Ripe white fruit: passion fruit, pear, peach, a touch of citrus and minerals. An optimal acidity and a nice long finish.
Rueda Special Volkskrant
Very round, suggests something of wood maturation, although it has not had that. That aspect comes from a long stay on the lees, the lees. Very refined, high level, and is therefore made from grapes from very old vines.

The 2013 Naia is a serious Verdejo, clean and pure, with floral and white fruit aromas intermixed with some balsamic notes. The palate is very pleasant, with good volume and acidity, which is somehow counterbalanced by residual sugar. Very good value. Drink now-2015.

Rueda 2019
Score: 89 |$15
WS review: A round white, offering ripe pear, orange blossom and ginger flavors, with nice freshness. Details of honey cream, grass and spice fine-tune the creamy finish. Drink now. 5,000 cases made, 2,100 cases imported.—G.S.

Rueda Special Volkskrant

Bodegas Naia is located in the La Seca, a region considered the Grand Cru in Rueda. The bodega was founded in 2002, with the aim of making great white wines. Since then, the unique base has been home to very old native Verdejo, some even from the pre-philloxeric period. The vineyard is 21.4 hectares and contains vines that are more than a century old. The treasure of the Bodegas Naia lies in the vineyards, because in the beginning the winery could buy old plots of up to 130 years. The most important grape variety is of course the verdejo, but they also grow a small part of sauvignon blanc. They hired Cristina Bosch as an oenologist. She was apprenticed to the master of verdejo, Eulogio Calleja. It is now a fact that we have succeeded in making the grand cru among the Verdejos and this is also confirmed by the many high ratings that the wines receive
The bodega's assortment now includes four wines: the château wine Naia, the two young wines S-Naia and K-Naia and the showpiece Náiades. The latter is one of the best Spanish white wines. At Grandcruwijnen.nl we carry the chateau wine (the Naia Naia) that has received rave reviews in the Rueda tasting of the Volkskrant (July 2015) and of course the great Naiades which is made from plots of 100+ years old.
