Description
The grapes for this wine are grown in the Arroyo Seco appellation in Monterey County, which lies on a gravelly alluvial plain below the Santa Lucia Mountains. Cool winds from Monterey Bay ensure gradual ripening and development of vibrant flavors. The rocky soils provide excellent drainage, increasing intensity and promoting balanced ripeness and acidity.
The Hahn Pinot Noir has sultry notes of ripe pinot noir fruit interspersed with smoky oak notes are characteristic of this Californian wine. The wine has soft notes of vanilla and berries. In the aftertaste you will experience cherries and plums. The wine contains fresh acids that provide a perfect balance with the velvety tannins.
Drinking time:
Delicious with baked salmon on a bed of spinach or lamb chops with honey-mustard sauce. Also delicious with duck breast.

A smokin' effort, as well as a terrific value, the 2014 Pinot Noir Hahn SLH (mostly from the Smith Vineyard) offers classic notes of forest floor, toasted spice, licorice and tons of Pinot Noir fruit in its medium-bodied, textured and layered profile. At 30 bucks, I'm hard pressed to come up with a better value in Pinot Noir. Drink this pleasure bent beauty over the coming 4-5 years.
An estate that has hit another level of quality over the past few vintages, Hahn Family Wines focuses on estate vineyards in both the Santa Lucia Highlands and the Arroyo Seco Valley. The wines are made by Paul Clifton, everything is destemmed and aging occurs all in French oak. The big change recently is the moving of their limited-production, single vineyard releases to their Lucienne label. These are all made in tiny, 80- to 600-case quantities and are beautiful wines. In addition, their entry level wines and the new SLH releases (which are a blend of the single vineyards) are absolutely worth checking out.

Hahn winery is located in Monterey County, one of the 58 counties in California. The area is breathtakingly beautiful and has an ideal climate and excellent conditions for growing wine. Hahn winery cultivates, in a sustainable manner, approximately 650 hectares of vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands, as well as another 461 hectares in nearby Arroyo Seco AVA. The vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands consist of 4 farmlands located on a high, hilly area, overlooking the Salinas valley. The precisely planted vines are guaranteed abundant morning sun. The Pinot Noirs of this winery owe their intensity and complexity to the beautiful soil structure and good drainage. The wind is also an important factor. As the Salinas Valley warms up during the day, the air rises and is replaced by the cool air from the lower and cooler Monterey Bay, creating a wind tunnel, as it were.
As early as 1790, Spanish missionaries discovered the rare soils and favorable climate of the Santa Lucia Highlands of Monterey and planted vines there. Some 200 years later, when founder Nicolaus (Nicky) Hahn and his wife Gaby bought estates in the Highlands, cattle, sheep and horses roamed the hills. Vineyards were only a secondary concern.
After discovering that the land he had bought was ideal for viticulture, Nicky acted quickly, releasing the first Hahn wine from the Santa Lucia Highlands (SLH) in 1980. After hard work, Nicky's dream of designating SLH as an official American wine-growing region came true in 1991.
Currently, Hahn Family Wines is managed by Philip, the son of Nicky and Gaby. Santa Lucia Highlands is famous worldwide for the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that are made there.
The wines from winery Hahn are all real quality wines made from the finest, hand-picked fruit.
