When it comes to Burgundy, Domaine Faiveley is one of the very best. This large family estate boasts approximately 120 hectares of vineyards, including famous names like Gevrey-Chambertin, Pommard, Volnay, Puligny-Montrachet, and Chablis Grand Cru.
It is also a family estate with 10 hectares of Grand Cru and almost 25 hectares of Premier Cru. The first step was taken in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley; his son Joseph transformed the estate into a magnificent, top-tier company, and his wines became ambassadors for Burgundy wines worldwide. With a clear, elegant, and distinctive style, they produce wines that consistently fulfill the ideal of Burgundy. "A very high-quality estate, representing the full glory of French winemaking," writes the renowned French wine-writing duo Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve.
Domaine Faiveley combines the principles of modern winemaking methods with the time-honored traditions practiced for centuries in its 19th-century cellars. Each terroir and each vintage benefits from special attention, making the cuvées unique. Each bottle is therefore a true reflection of its terroir.
The Faively Bourgogne Pinot Noir comes primarily from vineyards located in the Côte de Nuits. The vineyard for this wine dates back to the Gallo-Roman period but was abandoned for many years. The monks of Cîteaux Abbey were renowned for their knowledge and expertise in winemaking and the Burgundian terroirs. They successfully revived the vineyards around the 11th century. The vineyards were newly planted in 1962, 1978, and 1981, with an average yield of 55 hl/ha. Domaine Faiveley manages the vineyards themselves, giving them excellent control over the quality of the grapes. The hand-picked harvest is carefully brought to the cellars in Nuits Saint Georges. The wine is aged partially in barrels and French oak barriques for 12-14 months.
This Burgundy Pinot Noir has a delightfully rustic feel. It's naturally a 100% Pinot Noir, and the wine boasts pleasant red fruit aromas. The attack is rich and ripe with refined, soft tannins. A pleasant wine with good structure. This is a lovely glass to drink on its own, but pairs perfectly with white meat and roasts.
