Description
In 1992 Thomas Haag, the son of the celebrated Brauneberg winemaker Wilhelm Haag, took over the Schloss. It was already very good, but Thomas has made it a Champions League domain by working hard. According to the Gault Millau, it belongs to the very best in Germany. And the only domain in Germany to receive the highest award in all guides! The suppleness and drinkability are trademarks of Schloss Lieser, such elegance and above all the temptation to swallow a wine can be found at few other producers. In short, a must have!
With the Schloss Lieser Goldstück Riesling, a first-class white wine comes into the wine glass. The Goldstück Riesling Trocken has a clear, light yellow color. If you give it some air by swirling it in the glass, you can notice a perfect balance with this white wine, as it is not watery, syrupy or liqueur-like on the walls of the glass. In the glass, this white wine from Schloss Lieser presents aromas of plums, peaches and apricots, complemented by mineral and vanilla. Balanced and versatile, this fresh white wine presents itself on the palate. The finale of this youthful white wine from the Moselle wine-growing region, more specifically from Lieser, convinces with a good aftertaste. The finish is also accompanied by mineral notes from the bottom, which is dominated by slate.
The basis for the balanced Goldstück Riesling from Germany are grapes of the Riesling variety. On the Moselle, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on slate soils. A special feature of the creation of this top wine from Schloss Lieser is the fact that the grapes in Lieser (DE) thrive on stone terraces. Unfortunately, this traditional way of arranging vineyards is very expensive and time consuming and is therefore rarely found. Of course, the Goldstück Riesling is defined by more than just the Lieser soil. This German wine can be described as an Old World wine in the truest sense of the word and presents itself in an extremely impressive way. After the grape harvest, the grapes are brought to the winery as soon as possible. Here they are sorted and bruised. The fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. The vinification is followed by several months of aging on the fine lees before the wine is finally bottled. This wine is a perfect accompaniment to light and savory dishes.

The 2020 Piesporter Riesling trocken Goldstück shows a deep, pure, clear and intense bouquet with flinty notes of crushed stones. Lush and intense on the palate, this is a silky, refined and crystalline, very long and saline, crunchy Riesling from the Goldtröpfchen. Impressive in its complexity, precision and terroir expression. 12% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022.
