Description
If Captain Niebaum was partly responsible for introducing Cabernet Sauvignon to Napa Valley, then John Daniel Jr. was responsible for continuing his great-uncle's tradition of excellence and refining that varietal to a respected status. In honor of Daniel's Cask Wines program, which he initiated in 1949, the vintages bottled from 1995 through 2008 of this grape variety were originally called Cask and bore oak veneer labels. Until then, the wine had been 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in American oak barrels. The 2009 vintage, however, saw changes in both the name and the production and aging regime, and now Inglenook's Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Malbec—depending on the desired profile—all aged in French oak.
For years, Inglenook has been among the top wines from Napa Valley, and this Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Rutherford and white Blancaneaux is now distributed exclusively through Place du Bordeaux to affiliated wine merchants (including, of course, Grand Crus). This is also true for other iconic wines such as Harlan, Insignia, and Opus One. Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon is a tribute to John Daniel Jr., who produced the acclaimed 1941 Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon from Bordeaux vines at the Inglenook Estate by founder Gustave Niebaum. Today, this distinctive wine is still made with organically grown fruit grown exclusively on the estate.
This Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine with great charm, energy, and finesse. In the glass, the Cabernet Sauvignon is an opaque ruby red in color and opens with aromas of ripe cassis, blackberry, espresso, and cedar. While powerful beneath the surface, the wine is extremely focused and well-balanced, with silky tannins, ample freshness, and a lively structure, leading to a crescendo in the long, polished finish.
FACT: Inglenook's winemaker is Philippe Bascaules, who is also the managing director of Château Margaux. You'll find the official fact sheet for this wine in the "Attachment" tab. We'll automatically send it to you when you order this wine.

Bright raspberries and cherries are accented by attractive notes of sage and bay on the nose of the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon. Tasted as a prospective blend prior to bottling, it's really promising, with great texture and length.
The new fermentation cave at Inglenook—tunneled into the hillside behind the historic building—contains 120 tanks, ranging in size from one-half ton to 150 tons in capacity. The goal is to ferment in sizes appropriate to each pick. Winemaking consultant Chris Phelps pointed out a couple of other new updates: use of an optical sorter since 2019 and going to barrel sweet in 2021.
In the fire-plagued 2020 vintage, Phelps says the primary mark left on the wines was due to the vintage's several heat spikes. "Nothing got bottled that was picked after September 27," he said. Yields were down substantially compared to 2019, with volumes reduced to less than one-third for Rubicon and just a bit more than that for the Cabernet Sauvignon. Quality is good, but the smart money is waiting for the 2021s, which look to have reached another level of excellence.

This is serious with a deep dark-fruited character, notes of iodine, black olives, charred bark, smoky flint and raw mushrooms. Full-bodied, so refined and polished with an array of ultra-fine, silky tannins that lasts for minutes. Broad and encompassing with a long finish. Hints of sea shell, iron and umami. Extremely well-made. Better after 2026.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon wraps around the palate with substantial depth and textural intensity. Black cherry, plum, new leather, licorice and incense are all amplified in this potent, brooding Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2021 needs time to soften, but it is promising.

Inglenook is a famous winery located in California and is known as one of the best wineries in the whole world. The Inglenook winery is 130 years old and has produced only quality wines over the years. To illustrate the high quality of this winery, a nice quote from Gustave Niebaum from 1890 can be used: "I do not intend to make money from my vineyards by producing a lot of cheap wine. I want to make a California wine that is sought after by connoisseurs and can be just as high a price as wines from France, Germany or Spain and I am willing to spend all my money for this result ".
The current production of the domain Inglenook reassembles the production that the wine domain had in its 'Golden era' under the direction of John Daniel. Since Francis Ford Coppola bought the estate, the institution has been the same as it was between 1934 and 1964, pride is above profit and pride is certainly there. The wines made at Inglenook are among the best wines in the world and each year the wines receive high ratings from wine connoisseurs. The organic growing methods used by John Daniel are now being used again, so contraceptives are no longer used to protect the Inglenook vineyards and high quality grapes are being grown again, such as the Cabernet Sauvignon, the Petit Verdot and the Cabernet Franc.
