This beautiful white wine comes from sandy-clay soil on a 0.4-hectare plot. The vines are grown without pesticides or insecticides and are fertilized only naturally. The Janasse Blanc Prestige is a blend of 70% Roussanne, 15% Grenache (over 60 years old), and 15% Clairette (over 60 years old). The grapes are vinified separately and aged for 14 months in 103-year-old oak barrels. The wine is bottled without filtration.
The Janasse Blanc Tradition is a very serious and superbly elegant wine. It's a complex fruit bomb with peach, citrus, pear, and vanilla. It's highly concentrated yet exceptionally fresh. This combination makes it so incredibly beautiful. It boasts an exciting array of buttered citrus, pineapple, stone fruit, and brioche, while the oak component is perfectly integrated and relegated to the background. Full-bodied, layered, and incredibly textured, it's always fresh and pure. Enjoy this for the next 20 years.
Domaine de la Janasse dates back to 1967 when it was founded by Aimé Sabon with 15 hectares of vineyards. The total area now comprises 55 hectares and is currently run by his son Christophe and his sister Isabelle. The vineyards are situated on challenging soils of gravel, sand, and large boulders. The vines are 40 to 80 years old. Yields are usually less than 30 hl/ha due to strict pruning and a rigorous vendange verte (green season).
Janasse's big breakthrough came in 2007, when their Châteauneuf du Pape "Veilles Vignes" scored 100 Parker points! Year after year, all their wines have been rated excellent. The quality of this estate is so high that even their "regular" Cotes-du-Rhone is already highly regarded worldwide! This is truly a top-notch estate!

Mostly barrel-fermented Roussanne, with some Clairette and Grenache Blanc, the 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Prestige offers up charming aromas of toast, melon, white peach and lime. It's medium to full-bodied, slightly honeyed and generous, yet it remains refreshing and long on the finish.
After so many years at the helm of this historic estate, Christophe Sabon always has some interesting observations regarding vintages. "We try to be careful to keep some freshness in the warm vintages," he said, referring to the 2019s. "At the start, I find the vintage too warm, and now, I find they develop more freshness and elegance." On the other hand, he said of the 2020s, "We had good yields, but sometimes, too good."
I find both of those assessments spot-on when looking at the wine of Domaine de la Janasse, with some of the 2020s lacking the density and richness of a truly great year, while the 2019s here look particularly strong at the lower end of the range. The Cotes du Rhone Villages Terre de l'Argile and Cotes du Rhone Les Garrigues could easily pass as Châteauneufs in a blind tasting.
Consulting his diaries for the 2011 harvest, Sabon reports that while the harvest started early, it ended relatively late, with the last Grenache coming in on September 28 at a potential alcohol reading of 16.5% and the last Mourvèdre on October 3 at 16.7%. Yet the 2011s from Domaine de la Janasse don't come across as hot or overripe and remain near the head of the class from that vintage. They're definitely worth drinking, if you're lucky enough to have some in the cellar or come across them at auction or on restaurant lists.

Domaine de la Janasse dates from 1967 when it was founded by Aimé Sabon with 15 ha of vineyard. The total area now exists of 55 ha and is currently run by son Christophe and his sister Isabelle. He is a very successful winemaker! Christophe cultivates more than 15 hectares of vineyards in total. The variety of different grapes is very large, including Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Marsanne, Roussanne, Carignan, Bourboulenc, Counoise. All wines are made classically and excel through the combination of power and finesse. The vineyards are located on a difficult surface of pebble, sand and large boulders. The vines are 40 to 90 years old. The yield is usually less than 30 hl / ha due to strict pruning and a rigorous vendange verte. Christophe also works almost exclusively organically. Janasse's big break came in 2007, when their Châteauneuf du Pape "Veilles Vignes" scored 100 points Parker !! All their wines score excellent year after year. The quality of this domain is so great that even their "ordinary" Côtes-du-Rhône "is already highly regarded worldwide!
