Description
This Pinot Noir from the Sideways label of the South African winery De Wetshof is an elegant wine, beautifully rich in ripe berries and cherries, complemented by pronounced velvety and nutty flavors in the middle of the mouth followed by soft tannins on the finish. The wine is open on the nose and fragrant with delicious fruit, a hint of cherries and strawberries, in short, wonderfully refreshing. An elegant wine on the palate, beautifully rich in ripe berries and cherries, complemented by pronounced velvety and nutty flavors in the mid-palate followed by soft tannins on the finish.
The Robertson Valley is characterized by cold winters and sunny summers, with an average annual rainfall of 350-400mm. In summer, a fresh southern breeze cools the vineyards, allowing the grapes to ripen evenly. The dry climate and wind keep pests to a minimum, resulting in low pesticide spraying rates. The automated irrigation systems are linked to the weather station data and soil moisture monitoring ensures the vines are getting the right amount of water they need is to produce grapes of optimal ripeness and developed flavors. An abundance of limestone and gravelly soils are complemented by a heavy clay component which provides excellent water retention while also giving structure and fullness to the wines. This adds complexity and structure to the wines. When fermenting the red Pinot Noir grapes, it takes place in an environment where the temperature is kept low. This is done to ensure that the fruit and invigorating freshness of the grape remains in the juice. The fermentation also takes place in a cold environment so that the properties are preserved throughout the winemaking process.
A delicious wine to enjoy with a nice drink and also the perfect addition to grilled meat dishes. In addition, this wine, slightly chilled, is delicious with lobster, grilled fish and other fish dishes, including fish soups. It is also the perfect accompaniment to grilled meat dishes.
