Description

Situated at the highest point of the hills surrounding the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, it is the largest (privately owned) winery in the appellation. Its quality has been at the top for years. The winery is owned by the Abeil and Fabre families. Besides Châteauneuf-du-Pape, they also produce Lirac and Côtes-du-Rhône. While Châteauneuf-du-Pape has various labels, such as "vignoble Abeil" and "vignoble Fabre," the wine is always the same. Château Mont-Redon produces broad-shouldered, high-class wines.

The Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Mont Redon is a powerful wine from a fantastic vintage. The 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is composed primarily of Grenache Noir, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and then Cinsault, Counoise, Muscardin, and Vaccarèse. It was aged 45% in tanks and 55% in oak barrels for 12 months. The nose reveals numerous spices and hints of leather, along with sweet red fruit, cinnamon, and truffle. This medium-bodied wine is beautifully balanced and perfect for drinking.

Around Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a landscape of gently rolling hills and sometimes large plateaus stretches out. The characteristic soil is reddish earth covered with round pebbles, both large and small: galets or caillous roulés. These were carried by the Rhône Glacier. In some places, the path of pebbles is one and a half to two meters thick. The stones ensure that the grapes ripen fully, as they absorb the sun's heat during the day.
