In 1992 Thomas Haag, the son of the celebrated Brauneberg winemaker Wilhelm Haag, took over the Schloss. It was already very good, but Thomas has made it a Champions League domain by working hard. According to the Gault Millau, it belongs to the very best in Germany. And the only domain in Germany to receive the highest award in all guides! The suppleness and drinkability are trademarks of Schloss Lieser, such elegance and above all the temptation to swallow a wine can be found at few other producers. In short, a must have!

Thomas describes the 2020 volume as follows:
2020 – a historical year - A beautiful spring with an early budbreak and flowering was followed by a warm summer with temperatures around 35 degrees. Luckily, abundant rainfalls along the Middle Mosel brought a continuous water of supply. Starting the harvest on the 21st of September cool nights led to a great development of flavors and healthy, golden grapes. In five weeks and by selecting in various steps we could harvest high qualities and an enormous range up to the Auslese and Goldkapsel. Undoubtedly, the year 2020 will be historical as Corona has brought many new challenges and uncertainties. Luckily, our nature and the vines are not affected by the situation and so we are able to present a classical Riesling-year with fresh, crisp acidity and moderate alcohol level. The wines can be characterized as very elegant with a clear, brilliant and pronounced variety and vineyard characteristic.

There is now a real run on the Grand Crus of Schloss Lieser, dry Moselle in the highest quality spectrum. The Brauneberger Juffer Riesling GG (Groses Gewachs) is stony, intense and fresh, with flint-like notes mixed with lemon aromas. In the mouth the wine is silky smooth, with crystal/mineral and salty notes with a spicy, well-structured and mineral aftertaste. Still very discreet today and will improve even further in a few years so decant in his younger years.

FACT: According to Meininger the best GG Mosel collection in 2020 and the GG Niederberg Helden is the best GG Mosel in 2020 according to Weinwisser!

One of the four bangers from the Moselle. Germany champions league. What a great riesling Thomas Haag makes. It was not for nothing that he became Winzer des Jahres (Gault & Millau). In the 1990s, Thomas and his wife Ute took over in a sorry state. By working very hard, the weather has been raised in all its glory. The winery owns about twenty hectares in the best steep slopes of the Moselle. Due to 80-year-old sticks, only manual harvesting in several courses, the wines are guaranteed with great aging potential. All wines undergo spontaneous fermentation in the more than 100-year-old vaulted cellar. They are complex, elegant and mineral at the same time. And of course with a very low alcohol content. Wines with their own identity and character. It is therefore not the slightest slope where the grapes come from, such as: Lieser Niederberg Helden, Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr, Brauneberger Juffer, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich, Bernkasteler Doctor and the Piesporter Goldtröpfchen.
