2020 Gil Family Estates Atteca Old Vines Garnacha

Bodegas Ateca is owned by the Gil family, who are world famous for their El Nido and Clio wines, but also have very small beautiful domains where the best of the region is brought out on a very small scale. All these wines are all gems. With Ateca, Shaya and Can Blau, they have great wineries in various regions that only work with indigenous grapes. The old vines of Garnacha are planted on the hills about 900 meters above sea level. The vineyard is located on a slate plateau with layers of clay. The slate ensures that the vines can root very deeply and the clay layers hold the little rain that falls in this region well. Only the vineyards that have this unique terroir characteristic can operate organically and produce quality juice in this inhospitable area. The height also makes a huge difference because due to the differences in day and night in terms of temperature, a grape balances with sufficient free and acids. The grapes are picked manually in this vineyard and after the fermentation process, the wine remains in barrels for 10 months and is bottle-aged for almost a year

The full fruity wine is surprisingly elegant. On the nose, the wine has ripe notes of morello cherries and plums which are accentuated by notes of mint, orange peel with soft tannins in the mouth, juicy acidity ending with a long and smoky finish.
