2020 Famille Perrin Gigondas Domaine du Clos des Tourelles

After manual picking, the grapes are selected, not destemmed, crushed and then followed by a temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation with wild (grape-specific) yeasts in large concrete vats. The grapes are then pressed and the young wine is transferred to barriques to undergo malolactic fermentation and maturation. After 15 months, the wine is assembled and bottled without filtering. This whole process is entirely according to biological and biological dynamic rules and regulations. The Domaine du Clos des Tourelles / Perrin - Gigondas has a dark ruby red color. In the nose aromas of wild strawberries, cherries, licorice, tobacco and garrigue (dried Provencal herbs). On the palate notes of candied small red fruits and lavender, which are followed by a long intense finish with soft ripe tannins. Only a few thousand bottles are always made of this top wine from Perrin and only in the good years. The bottles are all numbered.

Say Perrin and you think of the magical castle Château de Beaucastel and the evocative Châteauneuf-du-Pape that is highly sought after worldwide. Beaucastel has been around since the beginning of the 17th century, but it was not until 1909, when the Perrin family became the owner, that the 100-hectare domain underwent a real metamorphosis. After the success in Châteauneuf, the family started buying other plots in the southern Rhone. Each and every one of these plots are ideally situated, which are a maximum of 45 minutes from the home port of Orange and can therefore be inspected daily. The success that the family enjoys today is largely due to the now deceased Jacques Perrin, of the third generation, a real 'biodynamist' avant la lettre. His philosophy? Good wine is made by letting the grape run its course in the best possible natural conditions. And so it happened, because already in 1964 all chemical fertilizers and weed killers were banned from the vineyard. Nothing is left to chance in the basement either. The Perrins built an ultra-modern vinification cellar on the nearby La Vieille Ferme estate, equipped with all the technical gadgets. But above all, the family will go down in the history books as the master of blenders. It is undeniably the great secret of the Perrins, who are convinced that blending the right grapes in the right quantities makes for better wines. Something that is still done by the family every year. Over the five generations, the Perrin family has acquired several vineyards with the best terroirs in the southern Rhone Valley. These vineyards are managed and vinified according to the same principles and convictions as Château de Beaucastel.
