Description
The Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is always a blend of 80% Grenache and a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Clairette and other permitted varieties. The Grenache is aged in foudre and the Syrah and Mourvedre 1/3 in new barrels and 2/3 in barrels of 1-3 years old. With Janasse, the wine should predominate and not the wood. The vineyards are over 80 years old and again this Janasse Vieilles Vignes is an absolute winner with beautiful black fruit, herbs, toast, licorice and roasted meat-on the nose. It is a full bodied wine. Highly concentrated with beautiful complex layers on the palate with lots of texture, but remains refreshing and clean at all times. 100/100 Falstaff
Domaine de la Janasse dates back to 1967 when it was founded by Aimé Sabon with 15 ha of vineyard. The total area now consists of 55 hectares and is currently run by son Christophe and his sister Isabelle. The vineyards are located on a difficult surface of gravel, sand and large boulders. The vines are 40 to 80 years old. Yields are usually less than 30 hl/ha due to strict pruning and rigorous vendange verte.
Janasse's big break came in 2007, when their Châteauneuf du Pape "Veilles Vignes" scored 100 points Parker!! Year after year, all their wines score excellent. The quality of this domaine is so great that even their "regular" Cotes-du-Rhone is already highly regarded worldwide! This is really a TOP domain!

The variety of different grapes is very large, including Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Marsanne, Roussanne, Carignan, Bourboulenc, Counoise. All wines are made classically and excel through the combination of power and finesse. The vineyards are located on a difficult surface of pebble, sand and large boulders.
