The origins of Château de Meursault date back to the 11th century. The Château has a rich history and has had many owners. In 1973, the Château was purchased by André Boisseaux. At the end of 2012, this Burgundian gem was taken over by the Halley family and this family still knows how to advise and assist with these beautiful vineyards to this day. Unusually for the region, the house was named after the village where the now world-famous wines that may bear the name Meursault come from. The vineyards of the estate are spread over 60 hectares in Côte de Beaune over villages such as; Aloxe-Corton, Savigny-Lès-Beaune, Corton, Beaune, Volnay, Pommard, Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. The impressive cellars of Chateau Meursault date back to the 12th, 14th and 16th centuries and were owned by the monks. These cellars can hold 700,000 bottles and more than 2,000 barrels of wine.

The Clos du Château is the signature of the estate. The Clos receives special attention because of its location in the park of the castle and is seen as the Ambassador of the wines of Château de Meursault and is vinified and matured like all the great white wines of Château de Meursault. Each plot is pressed, vinified and matured separately. In this way, all the typical characteristics of each terroir are reflected. After pressing, the juice rests for 12 hours and then undergoes alcoholic fermentation in wooden barrels. The duration of the maturation in wooden barrels depends on the vintage and the terroir of each individual wine. The wines of the Chateau de Meursault are of great class and eminently suitable to accompany festive and gastronomic dinners.

The Château de Meursault "Clos du Château" comes from the vineyard in front of the Chateau where the vines were planted in 1973. Vielle vignes, which provide extra concentration and taste. This is best enjoyed with fish in a rich sauce and grilled vegetables. The color is brilliant yellow. The nose is expressive with citrus tones. The taste is fresh and generous with beautiful fine wood tones that bring length in the mouth.

WINE-FOOD SUGGESTIONS

  • Grilled lobster with garlic butter sauce

    • The wine's rich texture and soft wood influence pair perfectly with the buttery sauce and sweet lobster meat.

  • Roast chicken with creamy mushroom sauce

    • The full body of the Chardonnay supports the creaminess of the dish and brings out the best in the earthy mushrooms.

  • Ravioli with ricotta, spinach and sage butter

    • The buttery character of the wine goes well with the sage butter and the soft filling of the ravioli.

  • Baked turbot or halibut with lemon butter and capers

    • The minerality and acidity of the wine keep the dish fresh, while the full structure is a good counterpart to the rich fish.

  • Ripe soft rind cheese such as Chaource or Brie de Meaux

    • The creaminess of the cheese is nicely balanced by the fresh acids and light wood tones of the wine.
