Description
The 2019 Red Blend TD-9 is a blend of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 11% Malbec, and 5% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet purple in color, enticing notes of mocha, tapenade, and truffles leap from the glass, supported by a core of blackcurrant and stewed plums. Full, juicy, and smooth on the palate, with a lively finish and a wonderfully pure, fruity finish.
FACT: TD-9 is a proprietary blend that celebrates a bold move. In 1973, over the course of a few months, John Shafer set out to teach himself to drive a TD-9 tractor in his Napa Valley vineyard. He had never grown grapes or made wine before. This spirit of risk-taking and adventure still guides Shafer and inspires every vintage of this wine.
ABOUT SHAFER VINEYARDS
Shafer Vineyards was founded in 1972 when John Shafer, after a successful career in publishing, and his son Doug purchased vineyards on the Silverado Trail in Napa Valley. They acquired 210 acres, 12 of which were planted with vines. A program of replanting and replanting was immediately implemented. From the outset, the Shafers were highly innovative. Their goal was to achieve a completely natural way of growing grapes and making wine. By growing clover and peas, among other plants, which not only prevent erosion but also form a rich humus layer, they attract bees and other insects, ensuring optimal pollination and a natural habitat. This eliminates the use of pesticides. Winemaker Elias Fernandez has been with Shafer since 1994 and is considered one of the most talented winemakers in Napa.

The 2019 TD-9 is silky, aromatic and perfumed. Crushed flowers, red berry fruit, spice and rose petal all show a move towards more Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. Forward and open-knit, the 2019 is an absolute pleasure to taste. Best of all, the 2019 will drink well right out of the gate.
