2021 Francis Ford Coppola Zinfandel Diamond collection

This red wine, which is made from the Zinfandel grape supplemented with 5% Syrah, has a beautiful sultry scent with lots of pepperiness, raspberries, cherry fruit, vanilla, beautifully typified for this grape, very intense. A supple start, delicious jam and some pepper, creamy and intense, lots of depth and power, ripe and tasty, a light spiciness, some supple tannins after. Enjoy with pepper steak, lamb with rosemary, pasta with sauces based on dried tomatoes and great with the barbecue.

The Zinfandel is the very powerful grape and wine of California, its own wine pride, which we hardly encounter anywhere else - only in the south of Italy, where it goes through life as 'Primitivo'. The Zinfandel gets a lot of concentration from old canes in Amador County to the south and some cooler vineyards in Paso Robles and Sonoma. The low rainfall in Paso Robles is ideal for the depth of this wine. A little bit of Petit Syrah has been added to give it some extra sweet fruit, some roundness and juice – a perfect combination. After fermentation, the wine undergoes a fourteen-month aging in barriques. American oak is often used for this, but this Zinfandel was deliberately chosen exclusively for French wood, to give it a subtle vanilla tone, which goes well with the beautiful fruit aromas.

Francis Ford Coppola (Detroit, April 7, 1939) is an American director, film producer and screenwriter known for The Godfather trilogy and Apocalypse Now, among others, and is considered one of Hollywood's most important directors. In addition, Francis Ford Coppola has been active in viticulture and trade since the 1970s. In 1975, he and his wife purchased the estate of Finnish sea captain Gustave Niebaum in Rutherford, California (located in the famous Napa Valley wine region) and the surrounding vineyards. That winery is now called the Rubicon Estate Winery. Coppola also owns the Francis Ford Coppola Winery in the Sonoma Valley.

Winemaking has been a tradition for many years within the Coppola family. In fact, Francis Ford Coppola has been making wine longer than he has been directing films. Grandfather Coppola used to make wine in the cellars of their New York apartment from grapes that had come over specially from California.
