Duo de Conseillante 2025 offers an elegant and accessible introduction to the style of one of Pomerol's most famous estates. Produced by Château La Conseillante, this wine shares the same philosophy, terroirs, and attention to detail as the Grand Vin. In the 2025 vintage, this results in a particularly expressive wine with great aromatic refinement, juicy fruit, and striking freshness.

Duo de Conseillante: the second wine of La Conseillante

Duo de Conseillante is made from grapes sourced from the same historic vineyards as Château La Conseillante. The estate boasts over ten hectares of vineyards on the border of Pomerol, where grey clay and sandy gravel soils combine to create a unique blend of finesse, aromatic expression, and elegance.

The wine is produced under the direction of Marielle Cazaux, who has played a key role in the further quality development of the château in recent years. Duo de Conseillante offers a more accessible interpretation of the La Conseillante terroir, without losing the typical refinement of the estate.

The exceptional circumstances of the 2025 Bordeaux vintage

The 2025 vintage was characterized by a warm, dry, and early growing season. A mild winter resulted in early budburst, followed by trouble-free flowering and excellent grape health throughout the season. The summer brought multiple heatwaves and prolonged drought, but the vineyards were able to adapt well to these conditions.

Rain at the end of August played a key role in maintaining balance and freshness. This allowed the grapes to complete their ripening without loss of tension or aromatic precision. The harvest began as early as August 28, making this vintage one of the earliest at the estate.

The final blend consists of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. This relatively high presence of Cabernet Franc contributes to the aromatic refinement, freshness, and structure of the wine.

How does Duo de Conseillante 2025 taste?

Duo de Conseillante 2025 immediately displays a pronounced aromatic profile. On the nose, red cherries, raspberries, and ripe plums come to the fore, followed by floral notes of violets and iris. Additionally, there are nuances of fresh herbs, spices, and a subtle mineral undertone typical of the Pomerol terroir.

On the palate, the wine presents itself as smooth, refined, and harmonious. The texture is silky and creamy, while the fresh acidity provides energy and precision. The fruit takes center stage, supported by elegant tannins that give the wine structure without making it heavy.

What stands out most is the balance between charm and refinement. The wine has sufficient concentration to be taken seriously, yet simultaneously retains an accessible character that makes it attractive when relatively young. The floral signature of La Conseillante remains clearly recognizable and lends the wine extra elegance.

The finish is refined and persistent, with notes of red fruit, spices, and subtle violets that slowly fade. As a result, Duo de Conseillante offers much more complexity than is often expected from a second wine.

Grape varieties, vinification and aging

The grapes are harvested by hand in small crates and then carefully selected. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled concrete vats, where a five-day cold maceration of the skins is applied to promote aromatic precision.

After a total maceration of approximately 28 to 30 days, a maturation period of about fifteen months follows. The wine ages in a combination of 50% new French oak barrels and 50% one-year-old barrels. As a result, the fruit remains prominent while the wine develops extra structure and complexity.

Located in Pomerol, Château La Conseillante has a rich history dating back to the 18th century. The name "La Conseillante" refers to the influential merchant Catherine Conseillan, who bought and expanded the estate. In 1871, it became the property of the Nicolas family, who have managed the vineyard with care for generations since.

Vineyard and Terroir

The La Conseillante vineyard covers 12 hectares and is located on both the Pomerol plateau and in the Saint-Émilion appellation. The soil consists of a mix of clay and gravel, with sub-soils rich in iron oxide. This unique terroir is ideal for growing Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which combine to produce wines with a smooth, creamy texture and distinctive power.

Environment

Since 2016, La Conseillante has taken significant steps to reduce their environmental impact. The estate has achieved ISO 14001 and HVE 3 certifications, which means they have high standards in the areas of biodiversity, disease control, and fertilizer and water management. They use more than 80% organic and/or biocontrol products and apply biodynamic agriculture and phytotherapy.

Vinification and Wine Styles

The wines of La Conseillante are characterized by their finesse, balance and silky texture. The vinification takes place in 22 concrete barrels, each corresponding to a specific plot. The wines are aged in 70% new oak barrels, 27% second-year barrels and 3% in amphoras. This approach ensures optimal expression of the terroir and a refined taste.
