Domaines Paul Mas was founded in 1892. The current owner is Jean-Claude Mas and he is without doubt the pioneer of the revival of the Languedoc as a region for quality wines. Jean-Claude describes his wines as 'Le Luxe Rural', rural luxury. He has given the Languedoc 'new world' allure with international grape varieties. And with his fashionable wines from local grapes, he has made the local character of the Languedoc hip again among wine lovers. Hubrecht Duijker rightly calls Jean-Claude Mas a 'wine wizard' and at Grandcruwijnen we are the only company in the Netherlands to also carry the high-end Grandcrus of Paul Mas.
The Laurinya of du Château Lauriga belongs to Domaines Paul Mas but is a real Château and a single vineyard wine is made here called the Laurinya. The Carignan, Grenache, Syrah grapes come from the famous Sioures vineyard, where the vines are between 25 and 102 years old. The soil consists of clay, limestone and stones. The grapes are vinified separately. The fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature and is followed by a peel soak. The wine is aged for 10 to 12 months in French and American oak. In the glass, the wine is a deep garnet red with fresh but also sultry red fruit, licorice and sweet spices in the nose. In the mouth, the wine is actually surprisingly smooth at first, but with fine tannins, but then becomes subtly smoky. This is the top model of the Chateau and in addition to the content, a lot of attention has also been paid to the trim. The wine is in a fantastic beautiful bottle which is a jewel on the table.
3840 bottles of the 2017 vintage were made. All bottles are numbered.
This is the ultimate wine with a slow cooked old-fashioned hash or a lamb stew.
