So, the wines come directly from the wineries and haven't traveled halfway around the world in questionable circumstances.

history of château la lagune and the médoc region

Château La Lagune is a historic winery in the Médoc, Saint-Estèphe, with roots dating back to the 18th century. It was awarded the prestigious 1855 classification as a Troisième Cru Classé. The family has a tradition of careful winemaking, with generations dedicated to preserving quality and authentic style. The grapes grow on gravelly soils of marl and grey sand, which ensure excellent drainage and minerality. The climate of Saint-Estèphe balances warm summers with cool nighttime influences, ideal for concentrated yet elegant wines.

2016 Château La Lagune: grapes, harvest, fermentation and maturation

The 2016 vintage is blended from classic Bordeaux grapes: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a smaller amount of Petit Verdot. Harvest took place in late September under excellent weather conditions, with aging offering an optimal balance between freshness and ripeness. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled concrete tanks, followed by traditional malolactic fermentation. Aging took place for approximately 18 months in oak barriques, some of which were new oak, which imparts refined tannins and complex aromas.

color, smell and taste of the 2016 château la lagune

In the glass, the wine displays a deep ruby red color with a purple rim. The bouquet opens with nuances of ripe blackcurrant, tobacco, cedar notes, and subtle cedarwood and dried herbs. On the palate, juicy red and dark berries, black cherry, subtle graphite, and leather accents reveal themselves, while the tannins are powerful yet refined, offering a long, fresh finish. Reviews from respected wine journalists praise the harmony and structure of this vintage. Some emphasize its finesse and drinkability even at a younger age, promising further development over decades.

development and drinking maturity of a 2016 wine

As a natural product, a wine like the 2016 Château La Lagune is fascinating in how it develops over time. Now, almost ten years after the vintage, it displays mature elegance without being overdone. The tannins have softened, while the complexity continues to unfold: nuances of autumnal forest, tobacco, and tertiary aromas gradually emerge. This development makes opening a bottle both exciting and rewarding.
