History of Château Smith Haut Lafitte and Pessac-Léognan region

Château Smith Haut Lafitte is a historic winery in Pessac-Léognan, with roots dating back to 1365. The estate has been run by the Cathiard family since 1990, who combine a focus on quality with sustainable agriculture. The terroir consists of Graves Günziennes type gravels, ideal for balance in both red and white wines. The vineyards comprise approximately 11 hectares of white varieties, with a strong emphasis on Sauvignon Blanc.

About the 2015 blanc from Smith Haut Lafitte

The 2015 Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc is a Grand Vin Blanc from Pessac-Léognan and is considered one of the finest white Bordeaux wines of the year. Blended with Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Sauvignon Gris, it is made exclusively from hand-selected grapes. The 2015 vintage was praised for its ripeness, balance, and tension. This wine convincingly demonstrates why white Bordeaux is gaining worldwide prestige among serious wine lovers.

Grapes, harvest and vinification of the 2015 Blanc

The blend consists of 90% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Sémillon, and 5% Sauvignon Gris. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand and pressed after a short cold settling. Fermentation takes place in French oak barriques, approximately 45% of which are new. Maturation on lees with bâtonnage lasts twelve months, giving the wine richness, texture, and complexity. The barrels are partially produced in-house, ensuring optimal coordination with the wine's profile.

Color, smell and taste of the 2015 Smith Haut Lafitte blanc

In the glass, the wine displays a bright, light gold color with green nuances. The aroma is intense and complex, with layers of ripe apricot, passion fruit, lime blossom, and honey. Behind the fruity profile lie mineral notes of crushed stone and citrus zest. On the palate, this wine is medium-bodied with enormous intensity and tension. Stone fruit and citrus alternate in a layered interplay of freshness and precision. The finish is long and lingering, with vibrant acidity, a savory note, and juicy fruitiness that beckons you to the next glass.
