They are among the secret heroes of the international wine world: winemakers such as the quality-seeking Carlos Figueiredo, who holds his native Dão and the local terroir in high regard, while simultaneously producing world-class wines. In his wines, wine lovers find the individuality that is often lost in times of increasing globalization of wine taste: authentic, artisanally crafted wines with a radiant regional character, made from indigenous grape varieties in small quantities.

The Reserve Quinta Da Falorca Lagar is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, and Tempranillo (Tinta Roriz) and has aged for 18 months in second-year and new French oak. This Falorca is also very Burgundian and elegant, yet powerful, with expressive flavors that will continue to develop over time. The powerful, almost black deep purple color alone is a magnificent sight. The unprecedentedly inviting, intense bouquet reveals beautiful aromas. The aromas consist of ripe plums, blackcurrants, roasted notes, blooming heather, pine needles, dark chocolate, and mocha beans. On the palate, you taste the same complexity. Excellent tannins. An admirable harmony between barrel aromas and subtle fruit. The mouthfeel is delightfully firm. The finish has an impressive structure with many spices, typical of the Portuguese king grape: Touriga Nacional, which dominates this cuvée.

A wine with so much power requires equally matched partners at the table. For example, a côte de bœuf, a dry-aged entrecôte, or a leg of lamb with plenty of herbs and spices.

Located in Pindelos or Silgueiros, Quinta da Falorca is the reference model and top wine house from the Portuguese Dão. No volumes but only quality. It is therefore quite difficult to get a Quinta da Falorca and especially their high-end wines. This is due to a number of factors, namely:

  • made in very small quantities
  • and still very affordable
