Description
Tornatore Etna Bianco
The Tornatore Etna Bianco is a beautiful, minerally white Etna, offering excellent value for money. Made from the Sicilian Etna grape, Carricante, known for its wonderful acidity, the wine is untouched by oak and aged on its own yeasts (sur lie). It has a golden-yellow color with green highlights. The expressive nose reveals notes of grapefruit, white peach, and herbs. The palate is rich, with a pleasant mineral note, resulting in exuberant freshness!
The Tornatore wine estate
The Tornatore winery was founded by Francesco Tornatore, who originally worked in telecommunications. In the 21st century, he established an impressive winery in Castiglione di Sicilia, situated on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, on volcanic soil. The family history, however, dates back to 1865, when Francesco's great-grandfather was already planting vineyards. This rich history of over 150 years is combined with modern winemaking techniques.
High-altitude vineyards and native grapes
Tornatore's vineyards lie at an altitude of between 600 and 1000 meters, resulting in remarkable freshness and elegance in the wines. This location gives the red wines a Burgundian finesse, despite Sicily's warm climate. The estate works exclusively with indigenous grape varieties: Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio for reds and Carricante for whites. All grapes are hand-picked, contributing to the high quality of the wine.
Vinification and maturation
In the wine cellar, great attention is paid to preserving the terroir. The wines are fermented in modern concrete vats and aged in large barrels, allowing for minimal oak use. This results in wines of exceptional precision, elegance, freshness, and drinkability, all of which are also affordable by Etna standards. The Tornatore Etna Rosso has quickly gained recognition, earning it three glasses at Gambero Rosso and receiving up to 95 points from James Suckling.
