Description
Overall it was a warmer and wetter winter than normal. In the spring it was dry with very high temperatures, which led to early bud break and good fruit set. The summer was extremely hot with numerous tropical nights. September started with intermittent storms and sunny weather that continued until October with record temperatures.
The La Rioja Alta Lagar de Cervera Albariño is a 100% Albariño grape from our vineyards in O Rosal and Cambados (DO Rias Baixas). After picking, the must is cooled to 10ºC before pressing in an inert atmosphere to prevent unwanted oxidations. After settling, fermentation takes place at 15ºC. Due to the weather conditions and the balance of the musts obtained, the wines do not undergo malolactic fermentation. Storage of the wine in tanks together with its fine lees (sur lie) which they stir periodically, which adds complexity.
The Lagar de Cervera AlbariƱo has a bright and vibrant green-yellow color. It stands out for its perfectly defined varietal aroma of the AlbariƱo grape. Aromas of white fruits such as apple and pear stand out, with hints of ripe melon and a citrus and floral background. In the mouth the characteristic freshness and liveliness that are so typical of the variety appear. A very broad and balanced wine, with a good structure and a long, persistent aftertaste. Perfect to enjoy with any aperitif. It is the ideal companion for seafood and fish, as well as salads, fish dishes, poultry and fresh cheese. Ideal in combination with Asian dishes, for example with sushi or sashimi.

2017 was not an easy harvest, but it produced some beautiful and classical wines, like the 2017 ViƱa Ardanza Reserva, which shows a little more advancement and polish and is ready to drink. It was produced with 80% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha from their vineyard La Pedriza in Tudelilla. It fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and matured in American oak barrels, 36 months for the Tempranillo and 30 for the Garnacha (that was harvested 15 days later), with six rackings. It's ripe and aromatic, tertiary, with 14.5% alcohol and mellow acidity, a medium-bodied palate and sleek tannins. It has a pungent note of clove and pepper, some licorice and ink and the cherries in liqueur from the Garnacha. An updated classical Ardanza. 600,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2021.
The Gran Reserva 904 carries the mention "Selección Especial" in the 2015 vintages for the first time in its 120 years of history. It follows the 2011 vintage and was released in April 2023. They now have 587 hectares of vineyard that allow them to produce 100% of the grapes they use for their 1.5 million bottles. This is one of the most traditional addresses in Rioja. and they release the wines quite late and have the equivalent of eight years in stock.

A more vibrant and fruitier expression of Ardanza this year with strawberries, mussels, warm spices and berries. Round and silky on the palate with lovely spices and a long, nicely saline finish. A nice touch of creaminess works really well here and further extends the finish. 80% tempranillo and 20% garnacha. Drink or hold.

Located in the Barrio de la Estación area in Haro, La Rioja Alta is one of the regionās historic wineries, founded in 1890. In the 1970s, the viticultural group began to expand into other regions in Spain, including Ribera del Duero (Bodega Aster) and RĆas Baixas (Lagar de Fornelos), also purchasing Torre de OƱa in Rioja Alavesa. The picturesque old winery hosts a well-equipped visitor center and underground galleries that house some of the 30,000 American oak barrels they craft themselves. Some wines are Riojan classics, such as ViƱa Ardanza or Gran Reserva 904, delivering quintessential Rioja flavor. One number sums up their approach: they currently store eight yearsā worth of wine in their cellars.
