Description
Dominio de Atauta has released some tiny quantities of beautiful single vineyard reds from the 2013 vintage, which they kept in the bottle for longer and which is the follow-up to the 2010. The La Mala is a beauty of a wine - but it is all very limited as only 950 bottles of the 2013 vintage were bottled but it has also been awarded 95/100 points by Parker
The La Mala from Atauta from the Ribera del Duero is a 100% Tempranillo coming from a single vineyard of 0.7HA. In the glass the Atauto La Mala is deep purple-red with beautiful pearls. In the nose the wine is incredibly and very complex and certainly after some time swirling a whole pallet of scents is released such as violets, oak, Mediterranean herbs, tobacco, leather. It has a medium-bodied taste with a lot of freshness, acidity and nice length and defined flavors that stay in your mouth almost forever. A great wine with a real personality.

Cropped from a cooler and wetter year, there were only 364 bottles of the 2013 La Mala. It's aromatic, subtle and terribly mineral, with very fine chalky tannins, combining power and elegance. It opens up with time in the glass, turning more floral, with even some peachy notes. It's a terrific vintage for La Mala. It was bottled in July 2015.
The 2013s were terrific, and scoring them is splitting hairs. Ultimately, it comes down to taste: if you prefer the more mineral Llanos del Almendro or the power of Valdegatiles. The two projects to resume producing San Juan and La Mala are great, but they are produced in tiny quantities, which makes them almost impossible to obtain.

Tasting Note
This sleek red offers harmony and finesse. Rich but supple, with cherry and red plum flavors that show a touch of sweetness, backed by spice, cedar and graphite notes. The tannins are well-integrated, the acidity still lively. Drink now through 2028. 70 cases made, 15 cases imported. — TM

The wine importer Miguel Sánchez's trip to Atauta was a fluke for the entire region. Passing through the Ribera del Duero, he discovered the small valley with its ancient, deserted vineyards, more than 400-year-old wine cellars, ancient cellar vaults and even the stone wine presses from the 13th century were still available. A wine wonderland that has fallen asleep.
The east of the DO was known to be difficult to exploit, as the vines are at a considerable height of nearly 1,000 meters. Miguel Sánchez came, saw and conquered: the youngest Tempranillo vines are 60 years old, the oldest vines are up to 160 years old, really incredible. An immense wealth! They immediately gave exceptionally beautiful results, after the wild plots were kissed awake. With the release of the first wines, it immediately became clear that this was not only one of the best wines from all over the country, but even from all over the world! The strict organic and parcel for parcel separately brought up wines are among the best ever extracted from the grape variety Tempranillo.
