2006 Château La Fleur de Boüard Lalande-de-Pomerol

The 2006 Château La Fleur de Boüard is an impressive Lalande-de-Pomerol wine that demonstrates the potential of a well-stored Bordeaux wine. This estate is known for wines that are round, refined, and yet powerful. The 2006 vintage has had many years to develop. With a wine of this age, there's always a sense of suspense: as a natural product, the bottle can still develop in surprising ways, allowing each sip to be slightly different. It's this uncertainty that makes tasting so special.

the Château La Fleur de Boüard winery

Château La Fleur de Boüard is located just outside Pomerol, in Lalande-de-Pomerol. For generations, the estate has been run with an eye for the terroir. The vineyards cover approximately 14 hectares, planted primarily with Merlot and a smaller portion of Cabernet Franc. The sandy and clay soils give the wines structure and depth, while the region's mild climate produces ripe and aromatic grapes. The estate combines modern techniques with respect for the natural conditions, ensuring that the wines retain the estate's characteristic expression.

The 2006 vintage is a prime example of how Lalande-de-Pomerol can age. While the wine already has an attractive roundness, it remains fascinating to watch how it develops. Through the interplay of time, bottle size, and natural variation, each bottle can evolve slightly differently. This makes tasting an older Bordeaux a unique experience every time.

tastings of 2006 La Fleur de Boüard

Upon pouring, the deep ruby red color stands out, lightening slightly towards the rim. The nose opens with ripe black fruit such as blackberry and plum, with hints of cedar, coffee, and a light earthy note. After some aeration, subtle spices and chocolate emerge. The palate is smooth and rounded, with soft tannins that elegantly support the fruity notes. The wine has a beautiful balance between power and finesse, giving both immediate pleasure and the opportunity to evolve further in bottle.

wine and food pairings

This 2006 Lalande-de-Pomerol pairs beautifully with dishes that complement its complexity. Think lamb, braised beef, or game dishes with a rich sauce. It also pairs well with aged cheeses, especially hard cheeses with character. The wine's roundness and refinement make it surprisingly versatile at the table, while the soft tannins make it a smooth pairing.

wine as a natural product

Château La Fleur de Boüard clearly demonstrates that wine is a natural product. Grapes are influenced by the weather, soil, and natural growth, meaning that even within the same vintage, each bottle can be unique. A wine over fifteen years old therefore always remains a discovery. How it will develop is never entirely predictable. Tasting becomes a journey of discovery, with subtle changes in aroma and flavor that can be different each time.

maturation and storage

The 2006 Lalande-de-Pomerol can age for several more years if stored properly. At Grand Cru Wines, this wine is stored in a climate-controlled wine warehouse, with optimal temperature and humidity for long-term storage. This keeps the bottle in excellent condition and ready to be opened at the right time. Decanting is recommended for immediate consumption, allowing the aromas to fully develop.

Château La Fleur de Boüard is an estate nestled in the heart of the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation, close to the emblematic Château Pétrus. The estate offers an immersive experience to share the spirit of the place and bring out the winemaker’s soul.

Close to the confluence of the Dordogne and Isle rivers, the fertile soils of Château La Fleur de Boüard benefit from a sunny, warm and humid climate, ideal for growing vines. This mild climate favors early flowering. This is why the name “La Fleur” is so frequently used in the appellation.

FOUNDING INTUITION

Château La Fleur de Boüard was born when Hubert de Boüard, co-owner of the famous Château Angélus, fell for this terroir located on the hillside facing the finest Pomerol growths.Driven by the deep conviction that the terroirs of Lalande-de-Pomerol could produce exceptional wines worthy of the greatest Bordeaux appellations, he acquired the 25-hectare vineyard in 1998, now extended to 29 hectares. By adopting a precise and virtuous approach, the Fleur de Boüard team crafts wines of exceptional finesse.

BLOSSOMING OF THE VINEYARD

Every flower draws its strength from the earth that nourishes its roots. The great diversity of the vineyard’s soils gives this terroir a generous nature that is favourable for the estate’s mix of grape varieties, mostly Merlot, which are vinified plot by plot to refine their balance. Here there are gravel and clay subsoils. A high-quality soil, with an ideal composition for the vine. Hubert de Boüard, supported by his Technical Director Bryan Dessaint, employs all his know-how to ensure that this early-blossoming flower becomes a vibrant, fleshy fruit.

Through the continuous training of his teams, Hubert de Boüard, heir to the great founders of French oenology, passes on viticultural practices that combine tradition and modernity, but are always based on respect for the living world.
