Corvinone is an Italian blue grape variety that is actually always used to blend with other grapes (usually Corvina and Rondinella) to make wines in Valpolicella. The grape gives the wine a little more color and is therefore used in Valpolicella to make wine such as the famous Amarone, Ripasso and Recioto but also for other wines from the DOC.  Traditionally, this grape is seen as a subvariety or mutation of the Corvina grape variety (Corvinone is literally 'big Corvina'), but current experts are also increasingly seeing the differences, which seems to debunk this claim somewhat.

What does wine from the Corvinone grape taste like?

Due to the intensely dark skin, Corvinone wines are deep purple-red. The older the wines get, the more they tend towards ruby red. Discover floral notes, with violet and fruity aromas of cherry, raspberry and blackberry. When the Corvinone wines have matured in barrels, spicy notes of cocoa and tobacco can be discovered. Intensely pleasant to drink. The Corvinone wines have a good balance between acidity and taste, with rather low tannins.
