Piper Heidsieck

Florens Louis Heidsieck introduced his first champagne cuvée in 1780. In 1785 he decides that he is ready to start his own champagne house, called Heidsieck. His philosophy: "a wine that smiles, created with the utmost care". The reputation of the House and the brand image have emerged from one of the main types of media, word of mouth. At that time, there were no awards to be won for wines, but Florens Louis Heidsieck nevertheless managed to attract attention, in a very special way. He is said to have been summoned by the Court of Versailles to present a bottle of his champagnes to Queen Marie-Antoinette.

After his death, his cousin Christian Heidsieck maintains his uncle's philosophy with the help of his cousin Henri Guillaume Piper. Thanks to his extraordinary business spirit and sense of public relations, 14 royal and imperial courts grant him the privilege of “purveyor to the court”. Soon the enthusiasts want nothing but “De Heidsieck van Piper”. This gives the wine the name “Piper-Heidsieck” and it becomes champagne for all festive occasions!
