Vernaccia di San Gimignano

The Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a white wine produced around the old Tuscan town of San Gimignano. The Vernaccia di San Gimignano has had the DOCG label since 1993. 
The Vernaccia is actually the most characterful white grape in Tuscany. The origin of the grape is not entirely clear. However, documents have been found that in 1276 the white Vernaccia wine was already traded. At the end of the 13th century, Vernaccia was known as one of the better wines. It was served at feasts and dinners of the nobility.
