Nerello Mascalese is the main grape in the wines of the DOC Etna. She must be present for at least 80% in the Etna Rosso DOC. The grape grows at altitudes of 350 to 1000 meters. Nerello Mascalese is a late bloomer that produces wines that mature well with pleasant tannins and, above all, spicy aromas. Above all, it adds colour and alcohol to the wine. Often used in a blend with that other Nerello, the Nerello Cappuccio or Nerello Mantellato. The dense bunches weigh up to 1 kg and contain medium-sized grapes.

What does wine from the Nerello Mascale grape taste like?

The grape produces light-coloured red wines with fresh acidity and a perfumed floral character, supported by soft strawberry fruit. The young wines can sometimes be marked by stiff tannins, but after a few years of bottle aging, it is precisely these wines that evolve into truly unprecedentedly complex, perfumed gems.
