Combining wine and food just got even more fun - and easier. At Grandcruwijnen, we’ve launched an innovative sommelier function: Sommy. This digital sommelier helps you find the perfect wine for every dish - with surprising recommendations that go beyond the usual pairings.
Who is Sommy, the online Sommelier?
Sommy is not your average wine selection tool. It’s a smart sommelier feature based on an extensive database with DNA profiles of ingredients. In other words: Sommy analyzes the flavor characteristics of your dish and finds wines that match perfectly.
Just like a top sommelier in a Michelin-starred restaurant, Sommy looks at underlying flavor structures: is a dish creamy, acidic, umami-rich, or spicy? What textures, intensity, and aromas are dominant? Based on this, Sommy makes recommendations from our full range of more than 3,000 wines.
Not a soulless algorithm - but real advice
While many digital tools offer mostly standard pairings, Sommy stands out. You don’t just get a list of wines, but also a clear explanation of why these wines pair so well with your chosen dish. Not an algorithm without context, but recommendations like you’d expect from a real sommelier.

How does the online food and wine sommelier work?
You can use Sommy in three ways:
- Select your ingredients and let Sommy find a match
- Type your dish in natural language - for example, “risotto with mushrooms and Parmesan”
- Paste a recipe URL and Sommy does the rest
Within seconds, you'll receive multiple wine suggestions with explanations - and of course, the option to order directly.
