Laura Catena –daughter of the renowned wine pioneer Nicolas Catena– established the La Posta series of wines to give the smaller winemakers of Mendoza their own platform, rather than an anonymous spot in the local cooperative. The wines are named La Posta, after the typical local roadside pub found everywhere here.
Paula and Pablo Pizzella are relative newcomers to Mendoza. Out of love for nature, two teachers left the city of Buenos Aires for Mendoza. Paula and Pablo Pizzella were physical education teachers. They immediately attracted attention with their wines from high-altitude, cool vineyards at an altitude of 1,100 meters. With their three children, they now focus on their 10-hectare vineyard in the Uco Valley. This means it is cared for with great warmth and attention. No wonder this produces beautiful Malbecs. The vineyards were planted in 1998, and the soil consists of sandy loam, sand, silt, and clay with 20% stones covered in limestone. The fruit takes center stage here, thanks to the beautiful aromatic grapes that are harvested and the careful use of wood. No more than 15% of the barrels are renewed annually, resulting in a subtle wood aroma. A special, beautifully characterized Malbec.
The La Posta Pizzella Malbec (Pizzella Family Vineyard) has a deep ruby red color in the glass, with aromas of fresh red currants, cassis, pure fruit, black cherries, vanilla, jam, juniper, spices, and chocolate on the nose. The Malbec has concentration and depth, black currants and a hint of chocolate, lovely oak, delicate vanilla and black pepper, beautiful acidity; pleasantly firm and flavorful. A powerful and intense red wine. Delicious with duck breast with berry sauce, grilled lamb chops, pepper steak, and aged cheeses.

The 2024 Pizzella Malbec was the most impressive of the La Posta range, introducing itself with a buoyant, spice-driven nose accented with floral tones against a core of balanced fruit aromas. The palate is elegant and nuanced, concluding with a solid, sturdy finish propelled by mineral-driven focus. It aged in 50% stainless steel and 10% new barrique.
