Persoonlijke gegevens
The Weingut Münzberg Chardonnay Godramsteiner Kalkmergel 2023 is a refined, dry white wine from the Pfalz that combines Burgundian elegance with German precision. This Chardonnay, sourced from limestone soils around Godramstein, displays ripe fruit, fresh tension, and subtle oak notes. A wine of class, balance, and a mineral length that lingers.
Origin & terroir
The vineyards of Weingut Münzberg are located near the village of Godramstein, in the south of the Pfalz. The soil consists of calcareous marl, which gives the wines their characteristic freshness, structure, and mineral notes. Thanks to the mild climate, the Chardonnay ripens optimally here, retaining elegance and refined acidity — the ideal terroir for this grape.
Vinification & style
- Fermentation: partly in stainless steel and partly in wooden barrels, for a balance between freshness and creaminess.
- Aging: several months on the fine lees for extra texture and complexity.
- Style: dry, mineral, and elegant, with subtle wood influences and a lively freshness.
Tasting note – Weingut Münzberg Chardonnay Godramsteiner Kalkmargel 2022
On the nose, notes of ripe apple, citrus, peach, and a hint of hazelnut . The taste is full yet refined, with a creamy texture and lively acidity that provides balance. The finish reveals light notes of butter and brioche, supported by subtle minerality. A Chardonnay with tension, finesse, and depth — modern and classic at the same time.

Sommelier advice
Serve at 10–12°C in a large white wine glass so that aromas of fruit and wood come into their own. This wine is versatile at the table and forms a brilliant alternative to Burgundy — pure, refined, and with a pronounced mineral signature.

The 17-hectare Weingut Münzberg is located in Landau in der Pfalz, near the French border in Alsace, about 40 km northwest of Karlsruhe. The relatively small domain produces only about 120,000 bottles per year. Since the purchase of the first vineyard by founder Jakob Kessler at the end of the last century, the domain has been owned by the Kessler family. Today, Gunter Kessler is in charge.
Weißer Burgunder (Pinot Blanc) and Grauer Burgunder (Pinot Gris) are mainly grown on the domain. But Chardonnay, Riesling and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) also feel at home here. The Chardonnay and Spätburgunder are fermented and matured here in wooden barriques of local “Palatinate oak”. The winery also owes its name to the discovery of a Roman coin in its top vineyard. These are very gastronomic wines with a Burgundian profile.
