2023 Poderi Dal Nespoli Prugneto doc Sangiovese di Romagna

This delicious Prugneto DOC Sangiovese di Romagna is made from 100% Sangiovese , thus offering a perfect expression of this grape in Romagna. Il Prugneto is a distinct vineyard, beautifully situated on the hills forming the foothills of the Apennines, the place where winemaker Celita herself lives. It is a vineyard with a special history, as it was the first vineyard acquired by the owners of the highly dedicated quality winery Poderi dal Nespoli . Here, the Sangiovese acquires a special tension and freshness, always combined with a light firmness. This is beautifully rounded off by aging 40% of the wine in barriques, with the remainder left unaged, as the fruit is also very important.

This powerful red wine is sultry and warm on the nose with aromas of fine fruit (plums and cherries), liquorice, and vanilla. The taste is intense with a certain freshness, partly due to the cherries and plums. The wine is lively, firm, and juicy with good acidity.

The vineyards of Poderi dal Nespoli are located in the Bidente Valley, with territorial characteristics that are unique and almost magical. The exposure of the vineyards and the geography of the valley, which keep the vineyards well-ventilated, contribute to a microclimate that is particularly favorable. The wines produced—particularly Sangiovese—are the most authentic expression of this magnificent terroir. For the Nespoli winery, cultivating the land means loving the land. For this reason, respect for the environment is something very natural to them. Nespoli is committed to minimizing the environmental impact of wine production. This is achieved, among other things, through the recycling of heat and water, and by reducing noise pollution. Furthermore, 95% of the energy used by the winery is generated using solar panels.

This wine tastes delicious with a dinner featuring somewhat more luxurious pasta dishes, such as fresh pasta with meat sauce, or ravioli filled with meat and rosemary. It is also wonderful with meat dishes (grilled sirloin) and aged cheeses.
