Description
Pouilly-Fumé takes its name from Pouilly-sur-Loire, the heart of the AOC, and 'Fumé', literally 'smoked', referring to the local name of the Sauvignon Blanc, 'blanc fumé'. The term fumé refers here to the ash-grey colour of the leaves of the Sauvignon Blanc. Pouilly-Fumé wines are generally dry, fresh and balanced, floral and fruity, with a striking minerality in which 'silex' (flint) can often be recognised. Since the end of the eighteenth century, the Lafond family has owned the largest and most renowned vineyards of Pouilly Fumé. After a challenging period during the French Revolution, the efforts of Comte Lafond were continued by his great-grandson Baron Patrick de Ladoucette.
Comte Lafond is the ancestor of Baron Patrick de Ladoucette. Comte Lafond is the first in the family with a huge ambition for wine expansion. Originally, Comte Lafond comes from Burgundy, but he soon bought vineyards in Sancerre. Here too, Baron Patrick de Ladouctte continued his passion and developments. And soon, great Sancerre is also produced in Sancerre. Here, the Baron makes two cuvées spéciales. The La Grande Cuvée Comte Lafond and the La Grande Cuvée Comte Lafond rouge. The two iconic wines have everything you could wish for and expect from this wine region. The grapes thrive on steep slopes around the famous villages of Chavignol, Bué, Maimbray, Amigny, Verdigny and Sancerre itself. The vines are at least 40 years old. The family only grows on vineyards that face south or southwest. After the first fermentation, the wine also rests on the "lie" (dregs) for five to eight months. The pure and elegant character now comes out even better.
The Ladoucette Comte Lafond Grande Cuvée Blanc Sancerre is lively with scents of gooseberries and citrus, juicy and elegant. The wine is perfectly balanced with the fresh acids and the somewhat more complex aromas. Unique in its kind and fantastic to simply enjoy. Combine this Sancerre with lobster, the traditional goat cheese from Chavignol, but also sublime with a nice piece of poultry.

Since the end of the eighteenth century, the Lafond family has owned the largest and most renowned vineyards of Pouilly Fumé. After a challenging period of the French Revolution, Comte Lafond's efforts are continued by his great-grandson Baron Patrick de Ladoucette. From more than 100 hectares of vineyards on silex soils and pure limestone soils in Pouilly Fumé and Sancerre, Ladoucette makes its best-known white wines, which are considered world references of Sauvignon wines.
