Description
The Timepiece collection pays homage to Jordan’s heritage, using exclusively vines over 35 years old, all topped off with a seal from Jordan’s founder, Ted Jordan.
The unique and diverse locations of Stellenbosch Kloof offer wines with individual character, showcasing the specific vineyard parcels on the farm from which they originate. The cooler south-facing slopes accommodate the more sensitive and aromatic white-skinned grape varieties such as Timepiece Sauvignon Blanc.
Fermentation took place in a combination of 67% 2nd and 3rd fill oak barrels and 33% clay amphora vessels. The inherent ability of the amphora to maintain the lees in a continuous state of suspension during fermentation was exploited, allowing the wine to be aged “sur lie” for 6 months after completion of alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. This all adds an unmistakable richness to the palate. On the nose you will find notes of elderflower, honeydew melon and sourdough. On the palate the wine is elegant and delicate with a beautiful salty finish.
ABOUT JORDAN
Jordan Winery is professionally run by Gary and Kathy Jordan. Not only do they make excellent wines, Jordan’s restaurant, bistro and guest rooms are also worth a visit. Kathy and Gary Jordan took over the estate in 1992, which was purchased by Gary’s parents in 1982, after both having worked abroad for two years. Fortunately, Gary was already involved in the planting in the 1980s. Gary is a geologist and used his knowledge to analyse the terroir and ensured that each grape variety was planted in the right place. Today, Jordan benefits greatly from these choices. Their vineyards are now mature enough to provide fantastic complexity, while other producers have only just started to plant the right vines in the right soil. Jordan is the only estate in Stellenbosch with vineyards planted in every direction. It is a true family business that has been making high-quality wines for many years. They combine the ripe, concentrated and fruity accessibility of the New World with the complex structure of classic wines. The international appreciation is also enormous. For example, the flagship, the Nine Yards hardonnay, was already named 'Best Chardonnay of the World' twice by the wine magazine Decanter and also won the Proefschrift Wijnconcours. In 2014, even the 'regular' Barrel Fermented Chardonnay was crowned 'Best Chardonnay of the World' by Decanter! In addition, they were also South African 'Producer of the Year' at IWSC in 2014.

The wines from the Chameleon range have been produced by Jordan since 1993. With the proceeds of these wines, 4 research projects are currently being funded that focus their research on the Kaapse Dwerg Kameleon (Kaapse Dwerg Verkleurmannetjie in Afrikaans). The habitat of this small chameleon species is threatened by urbanization and intensive agriculture, causing more and more of the animal's natural habitat (fynbos) to disappear. By gaining more insight into the living pattern of these (hard to find) animals, it is hoped that they can be saved from extinction. The wines used for this range naturally have the quality one would expect from Gary and Cathy Jordan, but are especially made for the moments that call for wine for festive and relaxed moments; in other words, perfect for a braai with friends!
