Description
This story began more than half a century ago in Cupramontana, in the heart of Verdicchio Classico. Today, the Umani Ronchi winery is owned by the Bianchi-Bernetti family. Three wine zones - Castelli di Jesi, Conero and Abruzzo - and numerous vineyards are spread across 10 districts. A total of 210 hectares are planted with Verdicchio and Montepulciano, which are best expressed in Marche and Abruzzo. The 185 km of vines are nestled between the hills and the Adriatic coast, each with its own unique characteristics and terroir. Umani Ronchi has doubled its estate and replanted 85% of its old vines since the 1970s. They have invested in Verdicchio and Rosso Conero and have reinstated the Pecorino and Lacrima di Morro d'Alba varieties. Their vineyards are also all farmed organically. This is more of a technical decision than an ideological one. The vines flourish in such a way that there is room for viticulture that gets the best out of the grapes without compromising the quality of the wines.
The Umani Ronchi Cumaro Conero Riserva is a 100% Montepulciano. The vines are planted on a soil of limestone and clay and the vineyard is located in the municipality of Osima and is situated in the southeast at an altitude of 150 meters. The vineyards are sheltered and have a sea view, which explains the unique and fresh character and elegant character of this beautiful red wine. The grapes are picked by hand in mid to late October. The alcoholic fermentation takes place for 12-14 days, after which a malolactic fermentation follows in barriques of 225 liters for 12-14 months. After bottling, the wine rests in the bottle for another 8 months.
The Umani Ronchi Cumaro Conero Riserva has a beautiful ruby red color with beautiful notes of ripe plums, blackcurrants, cherries, spices and vanilla in the nose. The attack is soft and mouth-filling, followed by a long, intense finish with soft tannins. The Cumaro always receives rave reviews from the international wine world, and rightly so.
