Description
The Knipser brothers presented their first red wines of international standard in the early eighties. Since then, they have been fully committed to perfecting the vineyard methods and thus the quality of the wine. Their focus is Große Gewächse Riesling and Pinot Noir. Weingut Knipser is located in Laumersheim in Germany's second largest wine region, Pfalz. Knipser has been voted Germany's best winemaker several times.
Knipser is known for his many excellent wines from different types of grape varieties such as; Spätburgunder, St. Lauren, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Grauburgunder, Weissburgunder, Gewürztraminer and even the Bordeaux grape varieties Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon!! A wide range of grape varieties, with which he can produce different types of wines from styles such as Burgundy to Bordeaux from one region of origin. 95% of the wines are dry, mainly from traditional grape varieties, these are accompanied by wines from non-indigenous varieties, but then with a Pfalz interpretation.
As with all of Knipsers premium wines, the red wines are only available after several years of maturation. The Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) grapes come from various vineyards around Laumerheim. The red Spätburgunder Trocken is harvested manually with a classic yeast fermentation and maturation for 12 months in used barriques. In the nose tones of red berries and cherries. A fine yet powerful Burgunder with a good structure. In the mouth complex flavors of raspberries, cherries and tones of a cigar box and espresso powder. Delicious with roasted or grilled beef, pork and poultry.

Knipser Spätburgunder Pfalz 2019
Score - 92
Complex nose of cooked red beets, savory and wet earth. Remarkably well-structured for an entry-level wine. The balance of fruit and tannins on the medium-bodied palate are spot on. Very harmonious finish. Matured for 18 months in well-used barriques. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
