Description
Domaine Leflaive is one of the most prestigious wineries in Burgundy, best known for its exceptional white wines, made from Chardonnay grapes. Located in the village of Puligny-Montrachet, in the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Leflaive is known for its commitment to biodynamic viticulture and its emphasis on expressing the unique terroir.
The premier cru Clavoillon vineyard is a single parcel of vines planted between 1959 and 1988. It is the largest parcel in Leflaive and lies just below Folatières, on a deep, stony soil. This white wine is opulent and exudes peach, lemon, apple pie and baking spice aromas and flavours. Well-proportioned but taking some time to fully integrate, with a long, complex aftertaste that combines fruit, minerals and spice elements. Clavoillon produces wines with lots of structure, that are lively and chalky and have a nice minerality.
FACT: The wine is in our conditioned Wine Warehouse and if you come to pick up the wine you will often also receive a nice discount. You will see your discount immediately when you choose 'Pick up' on the checkout page. We are located in Dordrecht with plenty of parking. Click here for our address.
Features of the 2016 vintage
The 2016 vintage was marked by challenging weather conditions in Burgundy. Spring frost and hail caused significant yield losses, making the grape harvest scarce but of very high quality. The smaller harvest allowed for a greater concentration of flavours and aromas, often making these wines deeper and richer.

The 2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon is already quite expressive, wafting from the glass with pretty aromas of pear, wheat toast, peaches and honeycomb, with citrus top notes on the upper register. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural and pure, with ripe acids and a surprisingly open-knit profile, falling a little short on the finish. This is a delicious bottle of white Burgundy, but it doesn't seem to possess the concentration and cut of a great vintage.

From: 2016 White Burgundy: Excellent, But Complicated (Sep 2018)
Sexy if rather reticent aromas of peach and minerals suggest moderately ripe grapes. In a cooler style in the mouth, offering good breadth but not the clarity of the 2017 version. Finishes with good dusty persistence but I wanted a bit more verve.
- By Stephen Tanzer on May 2014
Both estate director Brice de la Morandière and winemaker Pierre Vincent consider 2016 to be a cooler year without a lot of exotic character. Grape sugars were in the reasonable 12% to 13% range (a bit lower than in 2017), and some of the less-ripe fruit got a touch of chaptalization. The 2016 grand crus were still in tank, awaiting imminent bottling, at the time of my visit on the last day of May.
