Description
Fertuna is located in the far south of Tuscany in the Maremma. The Fertuna winery is owned by wine merchant Giuseppe Meregalli from Monza. He made his money with the worldwide distribution of Sassicaia (Tenuta San Guido) wines. San Guido's owner, the Marquis Incisa della Rocchetta, even lent him a hand at the start and revealed some of his winemaking secrets. The Marquis now even signs for 2 wines from this domain, namely the red wine Pactio and the white wine Droppello. The company is under the expert leadership of Paolo Rivella, scion of another great winemaking family in Italy. His uncle is Enzio Rivella and was the founder of several major Tuscan estates such as Banfi and is still considered one of the leading figures in the Italian wine world.
The domain is located on the Roman Via Aurelia Gavorrano and is located between Grosseto and Folonica. In addition to the classic sangiovese, international varieties such as merlot and cabernet sauvignon are also planted here. Noteworthy is the Droppello, a white wine made from the sangiovese grape! Fertuna is a discovery with its own style that is somewhere between the elegance of the great Chiantis and the sultry colored wines from Bordeaux from Bolgheri.
The Super Tuscan Lodai from Tenutata Fertuna is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 70%, Merlot 20% and Sangiovese 10%. The vineyards are located on a terroir of clay, marl with pebbles, shells and oysters, as this area was simply the sea in the distant past and this terroir is therefore actually the seabed. The wine was allowed to mature for 12 months in French oak and then bottle matured for at least 6 months in the Fertuna cellars. In the glass the Lodai Intense is ruby red with red fruit, pepper, chocolate and tobacco on the nose. In the mouth this super tuscan is full bodied, intense and long lasting. This super tuscan has similarities with a beautiful bordeaux. The wine is beautifully balanced and has a nice acidity and the tannins are well integrated.
WINEMAKER NOTES: Lodai is the symbol, the flagship, of Fertuna Warm and soft, but concentrated, is a wine of extreme ELEGANCE
