Description
This is one of the absolute top wines from Montalcino from the Casanova di Neri domain. This wine was the first Brunello where the highest quality was strived for and where the land was worked with great respect. The grapes were picked manually in September. The grapes were then fermented for a period of 23 days. The maturation of this wine took place for a period of 29 months in French oak barrels of 500 liters, after which further maturation in the bottle continued for at least another year. This producer belongs to the new generation of Brunello producers. The company started in 1971, when Giovanni Neri bought the largest domain in the Montalcino area. The domain covers a total of 39 hectares and is divided into 4 vineyards. The oldest vineyard is 50 years old. The vineyards are located at an altitude of approximately 350 meters above sea level. Casanova di Neri is one of the best producers of Brunello wines.
The Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova from the Casanova di Neri domain is one of the absolute top Brunellos and the 2016 is one of the most beautiful vintages ever and has received 97+/100 points from Parker and 99/100 points from James Suckling. This Brunello goes further than any other Brunello. Everything about this wine is nuanced and complex. Casanova di Neri has the unique quality of harvesting during optimal ripeness and this is very precise and this ultimately makes a huge difference in the glass. It is difficult to keep your hands off this wine, but let it sit for a few more years. Collectors and investors will certainly leave this wine for another 10 years, but we recommend uncorking the first bottle from 2023/2024 and the storage potential is until 2048+
97+/100 Parker, 99/100 Suckling, 100/100 Falstaff

This is one of my sweetheart wines from Montalcino. The Casanova di Neri 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova offers a long list of aromas on an ever-shifting and fluid bouquet. You get bright cherry, rose potpourri, black truffle, caramel, butterscotch, sandalwood, road pavement and chalky mineral. In fact, each time I come back to this wine, that mineral element seemed to grow in intensity and scope. The wine offers a grounded fruit side that is contrasted nicely against a grounded oak component. The mouthfeel is creamy and long, and the wine shows terrific tannic integration. When you come back hours later, you might find black olive, bresaola and licorice.
