Description
About the Garbole winery and its history
The Garbole winery is located in the Illasi Valley, in the province of Verona, Veneto. This region is historically important for the production of high-quality wines. Garbole was founded by the Finetto brothers, who, without formal oenological training, developed their own unique approach to winemaking. What began as a personal ambition has grown into a producer known for its uncompromising focus on quality and expressive wines. The brothers combine traditional techniques with modern insights, resulting in wines with a distinctive character.
The godfathers of Amarone are without a doubt Quintarelli, the legendary Romano Dal Forno and now Garbole boutique winery. These are the undisputed top wines among Valpolicella and Amarone wines. At Garbole, wine is made in an almost manic way where it is only about quality and not about quantity. The entire process in the vineyard takes place completely manually and grape by grape is checked and only the top goes into their wines and the unselected grapes are used as (very expensive) fertilizer for the vineyard.
Region, climate and terroir of Rosso Veneto
The Illasi Valley is located in the heart of Veneto and is characterized by rolling hills and a chalky subsoil. This terroir is ideal for grapes such as Corvina and Rondinella. The microclimate is continental with Mediterranean influences: warm summers and cool nights ensure a slow ripening of the grapes, which benefits the development of aromas and acidity. The combination of altitude, soil diversity and ventilation creates ideal conditions for concentrated, elegant wines.
Types of wines and philosophy
Garbole produces only red wines, including Valpolicella Superiore, Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva, Recioto della Valpolicella and some IGT Rosso Veneto wines. Each wine is vinified with the utmost precision. The winery only uses manual harvesting and selects only the best grapes. Vinification is done with minimal intervention, focusing on the natural character of the grape and terroir. Garbole wines are powerful, full-bodied, but always balanced, and are characterized by their long aging potential.
2015 Garbole Heletto Rosso Veneto: grapes and harvest
The 2015 Heletto Rosso Veneto is made from a blend consisting mainly of Corvina and Rondinella, with a small addition of other indigenous grape varieties. The grapes come from carefully selected plots and are harvested exclusively by hand. After picking, the grapes are lightly dried in small wooden crates for about three to four weeks. This process, similar to appassimento, concentrates the sugars and aromas, resulting in a more powerful and complex wine profile.
Vinification and ageing of Heletto
After the drying period, the grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation takes place under controlled temperatures with regular pumping over for maximum extraction. This is followed by 36 months of maturation in new American oak barriques. During this long maturation period, the wine develops its structure, depth and aromatic complexity. After bottling, the wine rests in the bottle for at least 12 months before being released onto the market. The result is a wine with power and finesse, made for long storage.
Color, odor and flavor profile
The Heletto 2015 presents itself with a deep, concentrated ruby red colour. On the nose it opens with intense black fruits such as cherries and plums, followed by layers of almond, liquorice, balsamic, mint, cocoa and a hint of coffee. On the palate the wine is powerful and dry, with ripe tannins and a lovely, fresh acidity that provides balance and length. The finish is long-lasting, with notes of candied fruit and toasted wood that linger elegantly. This wine is rich, layered and distinctive.
Why this 2015 Heletto is a must-have
The 2015 Heletto Rosso Veneto is a wine that lends itself perfectly to gastronomic combinations and long maturation. The year 2015 was also an excellent wine year in Veneto, which translates into ripe grapes and an optimal balance between concentration and freshness. The wine offers depth, complexity and structure in perfect harmony. This makes it particularly attractive to wine connoisseurs, collectors and sommeliers who are looking for characterful red wines with ageing potential.

The 2 brothers (Filippo and Ettore) have a common mission and ambition, which is to make a super unique wine that cannot be compared with other wines from the Veneto.
From the first idea (1994) they always try to surpass themselves with a healthy tension to make quality red wines.
A courageous restlessness takes them on this journey, a journey of constant improvement of the wines. The winery is located in Tregnago, a few kilometers from another visionary Dall Forno Romana. Also discover Garbole and taste these super unique red Veronese wines, such as Heletto IGT Rosso Veneto and the Hatteso amarone della valpolicella riserva DOCG. The Hurlo is also very exclusive for the real, real wine lover!
The aim of the Garbole is undoubtedly ambitious: to produce not only the best Italian wines, but also the best recioto wine, the best Valpolicella and the best amarone wine. Garbole's motto is "Create excellent wines without compromise; Autonomy and creative freedom the founding values" This is different. No compromises, very exclusive and extremely rare.
