history and location of Garbole in Valpolicella

In the eastern part of the Valpolicella Classica, in the hills near Tregnago, lies the family-run Garbole. What started as a small-scale project has grown into a modern winery dedicated to absolute top quality. Garbole works with an unwavering focus on expression, intensity and maturation potential, and consciously profiles itself outside the beaten track of large-scale production. The vineyards are located on chalky soils with excellent drainage and a southern exposure. The climate is continental with Mediterranean influences – warm, dry summers alternate with cool nights, which is ideal for the slow ripening of grapes with high aromatic concentration.

Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva: character and production

The Hatteso Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva is the flagship of the house. The wine is only produced in excellent years, in extremely limited quantities. The blend consists of Corvina Veronese (around 70%), Rondinella (around 20%), Molinara and some other local grapes. After a strict manual selection, the bunches undergo the traditional appassimento process: the grapes are dried on wooden racks for around 90 to 100 days, whereby they lose a significant part of their moisture and gain concentration.

After fermentation, a long maturation of at least 36 months in new French barriques follows. This phase is concluded with an extensive bottle maturation of several years. Only when the wine has achieved sufficient balance and complexity is it released – at Garbole, quality sets the pace, not the market.

deep colour, powerful aroma and ripe taste

The Hatteso 2013 visually presents itself with a deep ruby to garnet hue. The aroma profile is intense, layered and continues to develop in the glass. Ripe notes of black cherry, plum, fig and raisins turn into cocoa, leather, spices and a touch of grilled oak. In the mouth the wine is powerful and structured, with soft, perfectly matured tannins and a lively acidity that provides balance.

The flavor profile is rich and complex: concentrated black fruit, balsamic, espresso, nutmeg and a subtle bitterness in the aftertaste. The long, velvety finish holds up effortlessly and underlines the aging potential of this Riserva – a wine that is ready to drink now but can also easily mature for another ten to fifteen years.

why choose Hatteso Amarone Riserva 2013

This wine appeals to lovers looking for depth, intensity and individuality. No compromise in grape selection, no concession in vinification – only focus on perfection. Hatteso 2013 is a meditative wine, perfect for long dinners, special occasions or for those who want to enrich their cellar with something rare. The bottle exudes luxury, but the content far exceeds that promise. An Amarone that can measure itself with the very best of the region.

  1. Wild boar stew with rosemary and dark chocolate – The powerful structure and concentrated fruitiness of the wine enhance the earthy flavours of the meat and the bitters of the chocolate.

  2. Entrecote with red wine jus and black pepper – The full body and spicy aftertaste of the wine go perfectly with the juicy, pink-fried meat.

  3. Risotto with Mushrooms, Truffle and Parmesan – The creamy texture of the risotto harmonizes with the layered structure of the wine, while truffle and umami enhance the complexity.

  4. Duck breast with balsamic reduction and candied figs – The sweet and sour notes in the dish underline the depth of the mature fruit in the wine.

  5. Roasted veal cheek with creamy polenta and sage – The soft texture of the meat contrasts beautifully with the tannins of the wine and the spiciness of the sage.

The 2 brothers (Filippo and Ettore) have a common mission and ambition, which is to make a super unique wine that cannot be compared with other wines from the Veneto.
From the first idea (1994) they always try to surpass themselves with a healthy tension to make quality red wines.
A courageous restlessness takes them on this journey, a journey of constant improvement of the wines. The winery is located in Tregnago, a few kilometers from another visionary Dall Forno Romana. Also discover Garbole and taste these super unique red Veronese wines, such as Heletto IGT Rosso Veneto and the Hatteso amarone della valpolicella riserva DOCG. The Hurlo is also very exclusive for the real, real wine lover!

The aim of the Garbole is undoubtedly ambitious: to produce not only the best Italian wines, but also the best recioto wine, the best Valpolicella and the best amarone wine. Garbole's motto is "Create excellent wines without compromise; Autonomy and creative freedom the founding values" This is different. No compromises, very exclusive and extremely rare.
