Ormes de Pez is a well-known winery located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation in the Bordeaux region, France. The winery is known for its production of high-quality red wines, which often reflect Saint-Estèphe's robust and structured style.

History and Ownership

Château Ormes de Pez, also known as Les Ormes de Pez, has a rich history dating back to the 18th century. The name "Ormes" refers to the elm trees ("ormes" in French) that once grew on the estate. The winery has been owned since 1940 by the Cazes family, who also own the prestigious Château Lynch-Bages in Pauillac.

Vineyards and Production

The estate covers about 40 hectares of vineyards planted mainly with classic Bordeaux grape varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The vineyards benefit from the excellent terroirs of Saint-Estèphe, characterized by a mix of gravel and clay-limestone soils, which contribute to the complexity and depth of the wines.

Wine style

The wines of Ormes de Pez are known for their robust structure, rich fruit aromas and well-integrated tannins. They often exhibit flavors of black fruits, spices, tar and graphite, which is typical of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. The wines are typically aged in oak barrels, some of which are new oak, which adds to the complexity and aging potential of the wines.
