Cornalin d'Aoste or Humagne Rouge is a variety of red wine grape. It is named after the Valle d'Aosta in northwestern Italy, where it was mistakenly believed to have originated, and where it is now almost extinct. It is mainly grown in the Valais region of Switzerland, where it is called Humagne Rouge.

What does wine from the Humagne Rouge grape taste like?

The wine is distinguished by its brilliantly deep ruby red color. The first taste impression is full and firm, after which the fruit in the wine unfolds in which wild berries can be recognized, among other things. The powerful taste is also carried by the presence of matured somewhat rustic tannins and smoky aroma, pepper and black fruit. The Humagne itself is often only raised on stainless steel and beautiful Reserve versions are also made that get an aging on (French) oak.
