Cesanese is an ancient red wine grape native to Italy, in the Cesanese Comune area of the Lazio region, around Rome. That area is and remains today the source of almost all Cesanese wines.  Historically, and by its very nature (soil, climate, and the like), the area, since the days of the Roman Empire, has produced a famous variety of excellent wines.

What does wine from the Cesanese grape taste like?

The wine is usually dry vinified, with fruity aromas of mulberry, marasca cherry, pepper and violet. Soft tannins on the palate, decent acidity and long finish
