Albana

The Albana is an ancient, rather rare Italian white grape that is mainly found in the Emilia-Romagna region and has been grown here since the thirteenth century.  The first mention of the Albana grape can be found in the writing of Pietro de Crezenzi in 1305 who describes it as 'a grape that produces a powerful wine'. Wine based on Albana was therefore widely drunk at the court of Ravenna. The name is derived from the Colli Albani, volcanic hills in Lazio south of Rome. In addition, further research has also shown that it is an ancestor of the Garganega grape. The best Albana wines are made from grapes grown from the red clay of the hills that start at Faenza.

What does wine from the Albana grape taste like?

The Albana grape has a green thick skin, which protects the grape from rotting. Above all, we get fine aromas with a nutty character and crunchy acidity. In the aftertaste often a fine, slightly bitter almond note.
