Riesling has been cultivated on the beautiful southern slopes of the Abtsberg, Herrenberg and Bruderberg for over 1000 years. The Abbey of Sankt Maximin selected the best pieces for the table of the abbot (Abtsberg) and the choirmasters or Chorherren (Herrenberg) and the rest went to the common friars (Bruderberg). Under Napoleon the domain came into private hands and eventually into the possession of the von Schubert family. The wines of Maximin Grünhaus enjoy a great reputation for their unparalleled finesse, refinement and purity.
