Hondarrabi Zuri is the main grape variety used to make the unique crisp dry wine from the Basque region of Spain, known as Txakoli, as well as Txakolina and Chacoli. Wine production in this region in the northwest of Spain declined until a major revival began in the 1980s. This is one of Spain's coolest wine regions, and the Atlantic Ocean to the north, the Pyrenees to the east, and the Basque mountains that run along the coast determine the climate.

What does wine from the Hondarrabi Zuri grape taste like?

Aromas of citrus and white fruits, along with spicy notes, are followed by aromas of lemon, lime, apple, pear and sometimes pineapple, which combine with a mineral or salty edge that leads to a pleasantly spicy finish. Many of these wines are left on their lees (dead yeast cells and grape pulp) for several months to add extra flavour and a small number of producers use oak in the winemaking process.
