This grape variety most likely originates from the Douro and Trás-os-Montes in the north-east of Portugal. It is a powerful grape with a high yield. The bunches are compact with medium-sized berries. Ripeness of the fruit is typically reached around the middle of the season, with planting on warm soils and hills coming out on top. The color of the grapes is pastel lilac with a hint of yellow.

What does wine from the Côdega grape taste like?

Wines from this white grape are intensely aromatic with plenty of notes of tropical fruit, sometimes a bit floral. Because the grape sometimes lacks some freshness, it is often used in blends with grapes that contain more acidity, such as arinto.
