Bodegas Gaintza is a typical family business and is located next to the old family farm, which was built in 1923 by José Antonio Lazkano. His great-grandsons, Joseba and Urtzi, currently manage the vineyards. They took over from their father Nicolás and their mother Mariángeles can still be seen in her van delivering wine.

The Gaintza Txakolina consists of 85% Hondarrabi Zuri, 5% Hondarrabi Beltza & 10% Gros Manseng, which are picked completely manually and then pressed very carefully. After pressing, the must goes to temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, which preserves the beautiful characteristic acids. The Txakoli then rests on the fine lees for 5 to 10 months until it is bottled. Thanks to the low alcohol percentage and the light bubble, Txakoli wines are very enjoyable.

This refreshing Txakoli has a beautiful light yellow color and is beautifully clear in the glass with very fine bubbles. Very fresh on the nose with aromas of green apple with undertones of lemon and green herbs. Fresh and intense taste in the mouth. The light mild with well-integrated acidity leaves a fresh citrus aroma in the mouth with the unmistakable hint of saltiness. The Txakloina is a social wine, whose simplicity and originality appeal to everyone, both experts and amateurs. Our advice is to serve this wine at 8-10 ºC. Delicious as an aperitif but definitely recommended with seafood and sushi. Can age wonderfully given the beautiful acidity.

The climate, the geological and biological properties of the soil and the orientation of the vines are the main determinants of a wine-growing region. In the case of Bodegas Gaintza, the txakoli terroir is located in a special location: the Basque coast. The high humidity, the clay soil and the proximity to the sea are three of the characteristic features of the area. The area has alternating hard and soft layers (limestone and sandstone versus loam and clay rocks), with clay loam and clay soils predominating. The wet climate allows the development of dense vegetation that protects the soil from erosion and provides organic matter for biological activity. Precipitation in Gipuzkoa varies between 1,051 mm and 1,734 mm per year. The proximity to the Cantabrian Sea means that the maximum annual temperature variation is 11ºC.
