Grape variety Xarel.lo Vermell is an indigenous and Catalan variety also known as 'Cartoixà vermelho' or 'Caroixà marí'. It is a mutation of the Xarel.lo, its skin is thicker and a later harvest produces a grape with a light pink-red color. However, the Cartoixà Vermell never develops a huge amount of pigment, so even with a long maceration of the skin, the wine only gets a coppery pink color and therefore it looks like a rosé but is actually a red wine wine because the grapes and the skins ferment with the healthy antioxidants. So although sometimes presented as Orange wines, a Xarel.lo Vermell or Cartoixà Vermell is really a blue grape, so the wine is also a red wine with all the complexity that entails, but it presents itself in the glass as a rosé, so this is a utliem wine to pour at a tasting and then see which of the guests really gets a red wine out of it because the Color will put you on the wrong track, but the wine connoisseur will have no trouble recognizing the complexity of this great grape.
